Special occasion permits are required for anyone serving alcohol at a special event, such as a wedding, cabaret or fundraiser that is held in a location other than a private place.

Most special occasion permits can be purchased at any Saskatchewan liquor store or franchise (professional use and annual permits must be approved through SLGA’s Head Office). 

Permit applications are available online, at any Saskatchewan liquor store or franchise or at SLGA's Head Office. Outdoor event permits must be approved through SLGA's Head Office. It is important you apply for the permit well in advance of your event to ensure adequate processing time.

Sale Permit

These permits are for functions held to raise funds for charitable, educational, religious or community service purposes. A sale permit can also be used for social functions and community events open to the general public.

Permits are only available to bona fide organizations, such as organizing committees, service clubs, sport groups and community service groups.

Outdoor event permit applicants must also submit approval from the municipal council in the community where the event will be held. Contact the applicable city or town council, or municipality office for more information.

Permit applications are available online, from liquor stores, franchises, or SLGA's Head Office. Organizers should apply a minimum of 15 days in advance of the event.

Some communities may restrict events or alcohol service on Sunday. Contact the applicable town or city council, or municipality office for further information.

Tickets for the event may be sold both in advance and at the door. Advertising is permitted, but subject to SLGA's regulations. Contact SLGA for more information.

Minors may attend the event only with SLGA approval and if accompanied by their parent, legal guardian, or spouse of legal age.

Sale permits are valid for a maximum of 12 hours and drink prices are set by the permittee.

**If you’re planning an event for more than 500 people, SLGA’s Community Liaison Branch can meet with your volunteer group to discuss security, admission of minors, liability and other issues that may arise at your event. The Branch can also coordinate workshops for volunteers working as servers and for the security personnel working at the function. Contact the Community Liaison Branch for more information.

The fee for this permit is $25.

Cost Recovery Permit

These permits authorize the sale of alcohol at a price sufficient to recover the cost of the alcohol. These permits are available only for private family celebrations and events, such as weddings or birthdays.

Permit applications are available online, from liquor stores, franchises, or SLGA's Head Office. Organizers should apply a minimum of 15 days in advance of the event and minors may attend.

Cost recovery permits are valid for a maximum of 12 hours.

The maximum price per drink is $2. Anyone charging a higher price may be charged with failing to comply with the Terms and Conditions of the permit.

The fee for this permit is $15.

Non-Sale Permit

These permits are for private functions where alcohol is served, but not sold. This permit is commonly used for staff parties, weddings, reunions and other family functions, open to invited guests only. Minors may attend.

This permit is available to individuals, businesses and bona fide organizations.

Permit applications are available online, at liquor stores, franchises, or SLGA's Head Office. Organizers should apply a minimum of 15 days in advance of the function.

Non-sale permits are valid for a maximum of 12 hours.

The fee for this type of permit is $15.

Annual Permit (Regular)

Annual permits are available for organizations that hold regular meetings at the same time and location. They cannot be used for social functions.

These permits are available to bona fide organizations and groups.

Permit applications are available online or at SLGA's Head Office.

The permit is valid for one year, for a maximum of one meeting per week.  Dates of meetings must be specified at the time of application.

Meetings are open to members and invited guests only. Minors who are members of the organization may attend the meetings under a non-sale annual permit. They may only attend the meetings if accompanied by their parent, legal guardian, or spouse who is of legal age under a sale annual permit.

The permit is valid for a maximum of six hours per meeting.

The cost of this permit is $50 per year for a non-sale permit and $100 per year for a sale permit.

Annual Permit (Seniors Organizations)

These permits are available for organizations, a majority of whose members are 55 years of age or older. They are to be used for regularly scheduled social functions.

This permit is available only to bona fide seniors’ organizations and groups.

Permit applications are available online or at SLGA's Head Office.

Permits are valid for one year, for a maximum of one function per week. Dates must be specified at the time of application, and designations such as the first Saturday of each month are acceptable.

Events are restricted to members and invited guests only. Minors may attend the events under a non-sale annual permit. Minors may attend the events under a sale annual permit if they are accompanied by their parent, legal guardian, or spouse of legal age.

The permit is valid for a maximum of 12 hours per function.

The cost of this permit is $50 per year for a non-sale permit and $100 per year for a sale permit.
