 Gaming Operations Division
Video Lottery Terminal Program
-
The Gaming Operations Division is responsible for the Video Lottery Terminal (VLT) Program. The VLT Program began in 1993. The hospitality industry was concerned that local businesses, especially in rural Saskatchewan, were being hurt by Saskatchewan people traveling to neighbouring jurisdictions to play VLTs. The VLT Program supports the rural communities by providing an additional form of entertainment for liquor-permitted hotels and restaurants.
-
As of March 31, 2011, there were 3,936 VLTs in 629 sites located in approximately 302 communities in the province.
-
SLGA supports the responsible use of VLTs. Therefore, the VLT network is carefully controlled and regulated. VLTs are only allowed in age-restricted liquor-permitted establishments. SLGA’s policy does not allow VLTs to be played or viewed by minors. As well, all of Saskatchewan’s VLTs feature responsible gaming software.
-
SLGA contracts with Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) to operate the VLT Program. Some of the services WCLC provides include training, installation, maintenance of the VLTs and the central operating system and providing a toll-free hotline for assistance.
