Future of Liquor Retailing
On Nov. 18, Government announced it will implement an expanded private retail system of alcohol retailing in Saskatchewan which will result in more choice, more convenience and more competitive pricing for consumers.
This new expanded private retail system will see 40 SLGA stores converted to private retail opportunities. There will also be an additional 12 new retail opportunities in communities that are underserved. As well, all liquor retailers will enjoy a level playing field when it comes to how they purchase alcohol for resale, hours of operation, selection of products, chilling of beer products, etc.
Work on implementing this new liquor retail system is underway. The 52 retail opportunities will be awarded through a Request for Proposals (RFP) process. Details regarding the RFP process are currently being developed. A public announcement will be made when the RFP process officially begins.
